The Lawyers & Judges Division of EMUNAH of America seeks to to educate, explore and engage our professional communities, both in the U.S. and in Israel, concerning social and policy issues, which observant Jewish women in the legal profession, are uniquely suited to address. The need for ongoing exchange and colloquy among attorneys who are engaged in the process of shaping legislation and social policy, directly or indirectly, and who are women committed to Jewish Law and practice, is vital. The number of women who define themselves within these categories has grown by leaps and bounds and will continue to increase in the future. Some of the issues to be addressed at upcoming events will include:

  • Tensions between career and family.
  • Jewish Law and practice as a resource and influence in our daily work.
  • Childcare legislation: a womens issue or a childrens issue?
  • Religious observance and employment discrimination.
  • Agunah and divorce.
  • Domestic violence in the Jewish community.
  • Feminist legal theory.
  • Our self image: home, synagogue, courtroom, office.
  • Legacy to our daughters and sons.

EMUNAH of America is part of an international confederation of religious Zionist volunteers who support and maintain 225 social welfare and educational facilities throughout Israel that reach out to the country's indigent and immigrant population.
